How to Distract Small Children Long Enough For You to Drug Them April 15, 2009
Posted by kungfufool in Other People's Projects.1 comment so far
This was apparently developed in 2002, but I just found out about it from another blog. In order to put small children to sleep without the mess of tubes and masks, scientists have developed a new device called the PediSedate. It attaches to any old GameBoy (imagine the horror of a child falling asleep on the stylus of the DS) or mp3 player. When the child is sufficiently distracted, an anasthetic is sprayed into their nostrils.
This is a good idea.

Dragonball Evolution April 15, 2009

For another review of Dragonball Evolution click here
It should be known that while I liked my childhood when it happened, I have never had the desire to ever go back. It also doesn’t hold much value for me, which clearly is why I went to see the new Dragonball movie, oddly titled Dragonball Evolution. I liked the Dragonball series when I was a growing up, and it was sort of an anchor for me. I knew that no matter where I was, it would be there. This is partly because it played on Cartoon Network everyday, but mostly because it took two years for a story arc to finish. I always knew what was going on. Its difficult to explain the appeal of the show to kids nowadays, though. They have no appreciation for slower stories. They want everything fast, fast, fast.
The movie was meant for these kids, which is why its a PG movie. At the screening they seemed to genuinely enjoy it. For me and my friends, we enjoyed it purely out of grown-up irony. If I were to say that it sucks, it would be redundant, because the material already speaks more for itself than I could hope to in my lousy blog.
(More meditations on Dragonball Evolution and the future as it stands now after the break.

This is, actually, really old news (2 years). But I found out that David Byrne and Fatboy Slim wrote and performed a song cycle about the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos called Here Lies Love. Unfortunately, nothing really exists on the Internet about it, besides a few articles, one from the NY Times. The whole thing is probably on the back burner, but it sounds interesting.

In a publishing class at my soon-to-be-not-a-college college, I was assigned to write a memoir. Its the assignment that frustrates me. This is probably because I have difficulty seeing past the normality of my life and like everything, feel a profound sense of disappointment. Actually, that isn’t true. Friday, the cafeteria had green chile chicken tacos and normal breakfast food (eggs, bacon). You know what I did? I put that shit together. It was delicious.
So instead of posting the actual memoir, and in keeping with the themes of the blog, here’s how I went about not doing it.

Animation Project April 9, 2009

In a month, I have an animation project due for a class. The whole thing is already storyboarded out, but I have only just begun animating. This is my first venture into Flash, and my first competent animation. I tried animating a walking loop for the character, but it was hideous. Failing in that regard, was depressing. I spent an entire day, trying to make a smooth animation and it turned into a bowlegged monstrosity with expanding arms.

During spring break, when not cooking for this guy, or reading Graham Greene’s fantastic novel, The Comedians, I bought and beat the new GTA game. I played the hell out of that thing and it was beautiful. place where I can actually be a badass Asian without consequence.
(More stuff about the game and a brief discussion of The Comedians after the break) (more…)
How I Go About Welcoming You to My Blog April 5, 2009

Hello, good people. Sit down. Relax. Sip from your hot beverage. Savor the subtleties in its flavor—the robustness of a coffee-bean, the cleanness of an herb. Perhaps you have milk or cream in your drink. Did you sniff for freshness? Then relish the pasteurized excretions. Do you live in an area that allows smoking inside? Go right ahead. Have a ham sandwich and you’re in your underwear? Take a bite. Chew. Swallow.
If you are operating on a laptop, put your legs up on the desk and your computer in your lap. If not, unplug everything, unwrap the tangle of chords. Place it all on the ground. Plug it back in. Lie in front of it, perhaps on your front, maybe on your side. Bring a pillow. Bring a blanket. Stretch your arms in the air and take a deep breath. You are ready.
And here you are. Welcome to this new blog. Its author is like you, an obsessive. Someone who has something better to do yet refuses to leave whatever it is he/she is doing. Someone who refuses to simplify, who has to complicate everything. In this blog, you are going to read about how the author goes about doing that thing he is doing when he should be doing something else.
The attitude of the blog will not be constant. The author will not refer to himself in the third person after this post. He will not be as kind. Especially when you continue to wear those shoes.
Welcome!
